So how do I clean every surface of every tooth when your dog won’t even tolerate to the occasional toothbrush.

The technique we use takes advantage of a natural torpor state. When you dog has been put on her back, toe-beans in the air, the torpor sets in within 30-40 seconds, settling your dog’s mind into a confused kind of calm. Once the dog realizes that the dental groom is a painless experience they relax. At that point getting to each tooth is just a matter of a bite block and getting the right angles. The entire process typically takes no more than 30 minutes and the torpor is reversed as soon as the dog is put right-side-up again.

Many people think that their dog is the exception to this mechanism and sometimes they are right. But of the hundreds of dogs I’ve worked on I’ve found that 85% of them are workable in this manner, regardless of the dog’s attitude or energy level. In the end, the only way to know if your dog will tolerate the dental groom is to give it a try. If your dog is not compatible with this technique and we are unable to perform the groom you will not be charged for the service.
